A low murmur of voices could be heard throughout the chamber, as a average sized unassuming man walked to his place in front of the assembly.    He reached out and firmly grasped each side of the podium and slowly scanned from one side of the room, toward the other.   He stood silent, as if to allow all his senses to absorb this moment.   He calmly cleared his throat and began to speak.

President Marcus Matheson of the RPNW:

“Ladies and Gentlemen of the assembly, I come to you on this most humbling honor as a new member of the UIN.    Our fledgling nation was born out of the ashes of a once great nation.   Abraham Lincoln once said that a house divided against itself could not stand.    This was never more evident than after years of strife, which resulted from widening divides between internal faction and international pressures, would eventually tear the very fabric of what was a beacon of freedom and democracy for all the world.   In this dark moment, devoid of stability, the great states of Washington, Oregan and Idaho decided to form a new nation for the purpose of providing protection and a future for its people.  These steps were not taken lightly but were believed to be necessary so that our way of life could be preserved and the future of our people, can be assured.

President Mathesan’s face tightened and a stern expression subtly was visible.

“Make no mistake, our dedication to longevity of this new nation, is unwavering.  Our people have mandated that we pick up the mantle of freedom and democracy and be a shining beacon for the world in support of these ideals.  Make no mistake as we reach out with the hand of peace, we are not without teeth.   If you choose to threaten our existence, we will defend ourselves with all the viciousness of a cornered animal.”

His face softened to a unassuming smile as he once again scanned the crowd.

“As I look across this great assembly, I am reminded of the old saying that no man is an island.   This is also true of nations.   No single nation of this assembly can survive without friends.    It’s with this in mind, I extend a hand of friendship to any nation who shares our ideals and view for a better world.   Even before our acceptance into the UIN, the great Nation of the Republic of Dalmatia has stood next to us in support of our existence.   We hope that our presence in the UIN will present new opportunities for  friendships that will benefit us all.”

His smiled remained as his last words washed over his lips.

“May god bless the Republic of the Pacific Northwest and the members of this assembly.”

With his closing, President Matheson turned and walked away from the podium.
